K
oko-an is the tea house located on the top floor of the Hosomi Museum.
From here, a view of the Higashiyama hills opens out before you. The 14 tatami mat teahouse, designed in traditional sukiya style by Mr. Sotoji Nakamura, blends seamlessly with the museum's modern architecture.
At Koko-an, tea events and ceremonies are planned all year round, beginning with the cherry blossoms of April. Using tea utensils from the museum collection, this is no doubt the ideal place to appreciate the charms of traditional Japanese culture, how it reflects the seasons and entices the five senses.
Moreover, you are invited to join Koko-an Seminar, an intimate study group related to each exhibition at the museum. Here, in the tea room, a lecturer will speak on art works with the works at hand, an unique experience only a small museum like ours can provide. Learning art not from books, lectures nor behind the glass -- here you can enjoy art directly, as it is before you.
Finally, Koko-an features events relating to tea, flower, Noh-chanting and music, as well as bridal occasions. Koko-an is a place that offers a new way to enjoy traditional tea aesthetics.
